The Howard Rubin Educational Foundation (HREF) was formed to advance education related to gem and jewelry personal property appraising and to assist individuals through scholarship for educational development to improve their capabilities by attending courses, classes, workshops and conferences.
Scholarship Details
Eligibility Requirements
- Applicant must be a current member of NAJA.
- Only one application may be submitted per scholarship.
- To apply for a scholarship, submit a completed application prior to taking a course, class, workshop or conference.
- The Foundation will present general scholarship awards of $500 each to one (1) new and (1) one experienced appraiser. The new appraiser has less than two (2) years experience. Scholarship monies will be paid directly to the sponsor of the course, class, workshop or conference when the selected candidate confirms the educational opportunity in which they will participate. The HREF Scholarship covers the course fee only.
- Unused portions of a scholarship can be applied towards another course, class, workshop or conference but must be dispersed within the one year time frame or the unused portion will revert back to the Foundation.
- The HREF Scholarship is not transferable and if, for any reason, the applicant cannot attend, the second place winner will be awarded the HREF Scholarship. HREF reserves the right to use the applicant’s name, photo and to quote applicant’s essay for publicity purposes.
Guidelines
- Scholarships are awarded to cover the costs for tuition of courses, classes, workshops, programs or conference and DO NOT include travel, hotel or other associated expenses.
- Scholarships will be awarded for education classes, workshops, courses, program and conferences related to gem and jewelry personal property appraising.
- It is the responsibility of the applicant to complete and submit the application within the time frame noted above to be considered for a scholarship
Dates
- Each year applications will be accepted January 1st through June 30th. Scholarships will be announced and awarded on July 30th of the same year.
- Recipients will have one year from the date the scholarship awarded to complete their course, class, workshop or conference.
Note
- Directors, officers and employees of the National Association of Jewelry Appraisers and the Howard Rubin Educational Foundation, members of the Howard Rubin Educational Foundation Selection Committee and their relatives are not eligible to apply for the Howard Rubin Educational Foundation.
